YouTube EDU, an educational video repository

YouTube, the world’s leader in online video, opens a new section called YouTube EDU. YouTube EDU is a “volunteer project sparked by a group of employees who wanted to find a better way to collect and highlight all the great educational content being uploaded to YouTube by colleges and universities“.
The new section, launched last March 26, 2009, contains videos on university lectures, seminars, documentaries, video references, lessons, and other videos that are educational by nature. YouTube EDU simply aggregates all the educational videos uploaded to YouTube by different colleges and universities in the world.
This new feature is very promising but it sill needs a lot of polishing in terms of video filtering. There may be a lot of good videos (helpful, relevant and educational) within the section but some useless videos were not filtered out.
The announcement was made in Youtube’s release notes for 3/26/2009.
