One thing I hate about my Sony Ericsson W960i is its pre-installed font. The SE’s default UIQ3 font is quite wide. I always use small font for my phone and it does not look good when using that setting. So, I decided to mod my Walkman phone and change the its default font.

The default font (left) is much wider than the Motorola Z8’s font (right).
Before you start changing anything in your phone, make sure that you have backed-up all your important files.
Here’s how to change your W960i, P1i and any other UIQ3 phone’s default font.
- Get your desired TTF font. I used Motorola Z8’s font.
- Rename your fonts into these file names.Sans-Serif_Latin-Regular.ttf
Sans-Serif_Latin-Bold.ttf
Sans-Serif_Latin-Italic.ttf
Sans-Serif_Latin-BoldItalic.ttf - In your media memory or M2 Memory stick, create a folder with this format:
(Drive Letter):\resource\fonts - Place your fonts (4 files) under the folder you created.
- Restart your phone.
After restarting your phone, you will see the newly installed fonts.
Disclaimer: Mod at your own risk.
