Google’s Android gaining on iPhone and BlackBerry

July 9th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in Android, Mobile Phone

Android has just made a noteworthy leap in the mobile market share after the number of  mobile phones running the Android platform rocketed an increase of 44% from February to May of this year as reported by ComScore.  Also, Android now holds an average of 13% market share from 9% in March in the total mobile platform industry.

The 13% is still a small number as compared to that of RIM’s BlackBerry or Apple’s iOS which holds 41% and 24% respectively. The increase in Android’s market share may have resulted from the decrease in shares of its competitors including Microsoft’s which significantly dropped from 15% to 13%, the most significant drop among mobile phone manufacturers and platform developers.

Despite the recent successful or unsuccessful of Apple’s release of the iPhone 4, there had been no notable increase in the total number of users that uses iOS. Analysts say that most of the buyers of the iPhone 4 are previous owners of iPhone 3G or 3Gs. Also, the exclusivity of the iOS platform to Apple and their partner telcos make it more difficult for Apple to compete in the SmartPhone market considering that most of SmartPhone manufacturers are now working on releasing new Android powered products every quarter.

Setting up your Nokia E71 Instant Messenger to work with Yahoo! Messenger

Nokia E71

One of the features of the Nokia E71 is it’s built-in Instant Messaging application. Little that everyone know, Nokia’s IM application can be used with Yahoo! Messenger. Most of the time, we are notfied with a “Notify your service provider” -like messages when we’re not sure with the settings to be entered.

To configure your E71′s Nokia Instant Messenger to work with Yahoo! Messenger, just follow these simple instructions:

1. Open the IM application. (Home Key > Communication > IM)

2. For fresh installations, you will be asked for a Server Name, Access Point in use, Web Address and your own username and password.

The Server Name is used as a quick reference to what the server settings is all about. Since we’re setting up YIM, you may place “Yahoo! Messenger” as Server Name.

The access point in use will determine which internt data connection to use when connecting to a server.

The web address will contain the url/ip of the server which will host the IM service. In our case, it’s Yahoo!

The username/password are the same with your preferred login for desktop Yahoo! Messenger.

3. Enter the follwing information from the fields in #2.

Server Name  : Yahoo! Messenger
Web Address : imps.msg.yahoo.com
Username: <your username>
Password: <your password>

Mobile IM is sometimes annoying since it introduces a great amount of lag. It usually take a minute before the expected message arrives.

** Note: This set-up may also work with N82, N95 and other similar phone models (S60 v3 FP1).

SE W960i, the gadget blogging bought me

July 16th, 2008 12 Comments   Posted in Mobile Phone, Sony Ericsson

The Sony Ericsson W960iI am so happy because I finally bought my dream phone, the Sony Ericsson W960i Walkman Phone. I used a portion of my earnings from PRCBER to buy the phone.

I’ve been going to the different shops from different malls since last month to check on the prices. Finally, last week, I can’t help my urge on buying this phone. I was able to get it for PhP 21,780.00 ($484). It’s the cheapest I’ve seen from the weeks of hunting for a good price.

SE W960i is Sony Ericsson’s banner phone for 2008. It’s a camera, music (walkman) and busines phone in one. It has a built-in 8GB memory. It runs on Symbian’s UIQ3, the operating system being used by Sony Ericsson’s P-series phones. Like most UIQ3 devices, it also has touch screen capabilities. Since it’s a business phone, it has a built-in office application which permits you to create and view documents. I’m also satisfied with its 3.2 Megapixel camera which is equipped with auto focus capabilities. It’s a lot better than K608i’s 1.3 MP camera.
