Nokia N900 Maemo Internet Tablet
Nokia released today its newest Maemo member, the Nokia N900 Internet Tablet. More than a year ago, I have featured and reviewed its predecessor, the Nokia N800 Internet Tablet. The N900 runs on Maemo, a Linux-based operating system, which is the same operating that powers the N800 and N810. Unlike its predecessors, the N900 is the first Maemo gizmo from Nokia that uses GSM and UMTS/3G technologies.
Operating System-wise, the N900 is the first mobile computer to make use of Maemo version 5. Using an open-source operating system means more free applications that can be used. I have used the older versions of Maemo and the range of choices for free applications mesmerized me.
The N900 runs on 600MHz of CPU power and can host applications up to 1GB of application memory with its 256MB RAM and 768MB virtual memory.
The gadget is expected to be available in the market at the fourth quarter of 2009. As of now, we’re still waiting for the Nokia N900 price since Nokia has not given us a hint yet. But experts say that the gizmo will be sold at around €500.
