Get Socialite for Mac for Free!

socialite mac os x appSocialite is a 30-dollar Mac OS X app from Realmac Software. With this desktop app, you can browse and update your Facebook, Flickr, Digg, Twitter and more in just one app. You can get it for free by helping in the promotion of Calcbot, an iPhone and an iPad app that should give you a better user experience when calculating stuff. Go to Macheist and start getting your free Socialite app.

Socialite app integrates well with Growl notifications. It’s enabled by default. Thus, if you don’t want these notifications to appear, you can disable it in the app’s preferences.

What I like about the Socialite app is I can update Facebook pages that I administer (i.e wall photos and status updates). In addition, viewing of shared links, status updates, friends’ photos and my photos are segregated. WIth Flickr, you can easily view your contacts’ newest photos and recent interestingness photos. Their integration with Twitter is good enough because it segregates the retweets you made and the retweets made by others. You can also view your Twitter lists.

As of this moment, the URL shortener of Socialite app does not work. Check out my sample tweet here. Anyway, I wish there will be an improvement in the UI for uploading photos to Twitter via TwitPic. As of now, I have to go the Events > Upload photo to upload the picture. It would be nice to have an icon in the quick edit area to easily upload the photo without going to the menu. A suggested workaround for this is the a keyboard shortcut (Shift + CMD + P). What I do not like about this app is that you easily see if someone replied to a particular tweet.

view tweets conversation socialite app

A label below the tweet with a link should be good enough as an additional way to view the conversation. This should make the application easier to use for first-time users.

You can also add RSS feeds there and as well as your Google Reader.

It also supports multiple accounts of Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, etc. :)

Handy Light: an iPhone tethering app that disguises as a flashlight app

handy light iphone appThe Handy Light iPhone app by Nick Lee is actually a tethering app that camouflages as a flash light. I was able to get my hands on the app through the App Store for $0.99. :D A video demo is uploaded in YouTube to show you how to use the app’s “secret feature” which is a “secret no more” (pun intended).

I just tried the app and it works. I followed the written instructions from AppShopper. Buy it while it’s there. :)

Here are some reviews of the customers who bought it from the App Store :D

I will love this developer forever, thank you for such an amazing “flashlight” application. :)

Thank you for rebelling against the evil iEmpire that is A**le Inc. I buy apps extremely rarely, but I made an exception for you. Thanks for this feature, I love you long time and hope the Evil Empire is not too hard on you.
