SE W960i, the gadget blogging bought me

July 16th, 2008 12 Comments   Posted in Mobile Phone, Sony Ericsson

The Sony Ericsson W960iI am so happy because I finally bought my dream phone, the Sony Ericsson W960i Walkman Phone. I used a portion of my earnings from PRCBER to buy the phone.

I’ve been going to the different shops from different malls since last month to check on the prices. Finally, last week, I can’t help my urge on buying this phone. I was able to get it for PhP 21,780.00 ($484). It’s the cheapest I’ve seen from the weeks of hunting for a good price.

SE W960i is Sony Ericsson’s banner phone for 2008. It’s a camera, music (walkman) and busines phone in one. It has a built-in 8GB memory. It runs on Symbian’s UIQ3, the operating system being used by Sony Ericsson’s P-series phones. Like most UIQ3 devices, it also has touch screen capabilities. Since it’s a business phone, it has a built-in office application which permits you to create and view documents. I’m also satisfied with its 3.2 Megapixel camera which is equipped with auto focus capabilities. It’s a lot better than K608i’s 1.3 MP camera.

USJ-R claims first to use online collaborative tool for the academe

June 5th, 2008 5 Comments   Posted in Headlines

It was this morning that I read yesterday’s news paper issue.  As I was browsing the Business section of the daily publication, I came across the article where it says a local University partners with an international company in providing a tool for online learning.

I got alarmed when I read the line that says that the University of San Jose-Recoletos in Cebu city is the first school in the Visayas and Mindanao to use an online collaborative tool for learning.  According to the article, the university paired up with Microsoft’s Live@edu, a competitor of Google Apps for Education, in providing an online platform where students and faculty can access online services (for learning) with the use of a single e-mail account.

As far as I know, DCNHS in Davao City (Mindanao) started using Google Apps for Education one or two years ago.  They have been using Google Apps for their email services, online calendars, document sharing and other functions which comes along with Google’s services.  The claims of USJ-R to be the first to use an online collaborative tool for learning in the Visayas and Mindanao region is definitely a hoax.

I’m just hoping that the administrators of the said university will be aware that there are lots of other schools coming from Mindanao that have made use of  these kinds of technologies for learning. It’s just that these schools were not given the opportunity to publicize their little achievements.

April 10th, 2008 7 Comments   Posted in Internet

Two of my friends, Kuya Andrew and Kuya Blogie, who are both using OpenDNS and PLDT myDSL encountered an annoying problem this afternoon.  PLDT myDSL subscribers who uses OpenDNS blocks their access to search engine sites like Google, Yahoo and MSN.

Google blocked by PLDT and openDNS

The odd thing about it is the presence of the PLDT myDSL logo below the Site Blocked message of OpenDNS.

N800 Email Application

Upon seeing the Nokia N800 Internet Tablet, the first question that came to me was “where do I place my SIM card?”. But sorry Nokia cellphone fans, this gadget is not a cellphone nor has it any mobile phone capabilities.

At first it was very odd and confusing that a $350 gadget from a leading cellphone manufacturer is not equipped with any phone capabilities. It was even more surprising since Nokia’s N-series boasts a line of feature-packed mobile phones. Since the Nokia N800 Internet Tablet is not a mobile phone, but it does not intend to replace them but to complement them instead.

April 6th, 2008 2 Comments   Posted in Globe

Good news to all Globe Subscribers. Globe launches its new mobile internet browsing rates today. Similar to Smart’s mobile internet charging scheme, Globe will charge its users P5 for every 15 minute use of GPRS, 3G or HSDPA.

Globe gives its users two options on how internet rates will be charged. First option is the KB charging wherein users are charged P 0.15 for every kilobyte transfer made. This option is best suited for info-based browsing such as movie scheds, dictionary service, sport statistics and the like.

The second option, the new one, is a time-based charging. Users will be charged depending on how long they used the mobile internet services. Users are charged P 5.00 for 15 minutes. This service is best suited for users who use their mobile phones, PDAs, or 3G/HSDPA devices to surf for multimedia content.

Thankfully surfing the web on your phone is way easier than catching the perfect wave and hanging ten. Globe Prepaid and Postpaid subscribers are by default on the KB Charging scheme. If you want to try out Globe’s new TIME charging scheme, all you need to do is to text TIME to 1111 for free!

To shift back to KB Browsing: text KB.
To check the charging scheme that currently applies to your account: text STATUS. Send the keyword to 1111 for free.

With Globe’s new charging scheme, users are given options which best fit their needs.

Removing y82td3td.com and amvo1.dll worms

March 5th, 2008 10 Comments   Posted in Virus

I got shocked last night when I discovered that my computer was infected with a worm. Unfortunately, my Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0 was not able to detect this virus when it was injected into my Windows XP SP2.

The first noticeable effect of the said worm is a slight delay when opening your drive. This is caused by the autorun.inf file which is triggered everytime you open the root folder of your drive. This file is not visible from the normal view, not even when the Show Hidden files option is active.
