Faster internet connection for Pinoys, Telcos now working
Last month, the Asia America Gateway project went live giving PLDT and Bayantel faster transfer rates between Philippines and the United States. The Asia-America Gateway project is a 20,000-km, high-bandwidth fiber optic submarine cable system that connects Southeast Asia to the United States. It provides connectivity between Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Hong Kong SAR, Philippines, Guam, Hawaii and the US West Coast. The project was signed in April 2007 and it went live last November 11, 2009.
On a more recent news, Globe Telecoms joins the $400M Southeast Asia-Japan cable project this year. The Asia-Japan cable project, which will go live in 2012, will bring 1.2TB worth of transfer speed for Globe Telecom. The SJC system will initially link Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Philippines and Japan. Globe is the exclusive SJC landing party in the Philippines.
With these developments in the Philippines’ cabling link to its neighboring countries and the United States, it can be expected that in the coming years, telcos will be delivering faster internet connections for home users. It also ensures consumers a more reliable infrastructure for commercial traffic, voice and data services. These developments will also bring more advanced solutions and services for Filipinos.
