Samsung E590 Review: Traveller’s Suicide Phone
Samsung E590 has been in the market for quite sometime. For most of us, it s a sturdy phone, with a 3 megapixel camera. But why the title suicide phone?
The Samsung E590 is a phone made for the basic functions of a phone and quite impressively, a little over the basic phone features, the Samsung E590 caught my attention. When travelling, one must consider that it is of a great possibility that you will “misplace” your phone or forget it due to many factors. And if you lose such a phone, it would be very painful if it was something likeĀ HTC Magic Android, Samsung Omnia, or even the oh-so-luxurious Blackberry Storm. But when on the go and in need of something you’re not scared to risk, the Samsung E590 wins.
Here are the good points that your Samsung E590 can make you go ga-ga over.
- Price- for about $93-$100 (4500-5000 php) this phone is worth it!
- Battery life- it can last pretty long, I’m a heavy texter yet it lasts for about 2 days, even calling doesn’t seem to be much of a heavy drainer. It’s the camera that eats up life.
- MP3 on the go- listen to your favorite track while you’re travelling, this phone has the airplane mode too so you can use it while in the plane.
- 3Mp Camera – the megapixel was one of the things that caught my attention. 3Mp is quite big already for a basic phone
- External Memory – apart from the internal memory, you can increase the memory up to 1G, good for easy file transfer.
- less bulk- unlike your other basic phones, the bulk isn’t much.
- Sounds- this has got some wicked audio, not bad for a basic phone
- Video Record - okay, so not exactly the best video cam, but for short clips on the go for some video bloggers, it’s pretty nifty, especially with the external memory.
- Sturdy -I can attest to this very well, my own Samsung E590 has had a fall (at least 1 foot fall) for more than 30 times. And it’s still fully functioning. The pictures now are showing the actual Phone that fell more than 30 times.
Now for the no-no’s.

- Slow processing -takes forever to view your pics, helps if you have a separate pic viewing device like a netbook or a PDA.
- Limited external memory- only 1G max
- Image quality -not exactly comparable to the actual digi-cams, but still fair enough if in broad daylight
- Software install- you can only install softwares if you do it wirelessly, you can jack it up to the computer
- Design -for me, the black color and simplicity was fine, but for others, design has always been a big complaint. Often times I would hear: “Ahhh, so that’s why it’s a cheap phone”

And so there you have it. Searching for a phone you’re not afraid to lose? Searching for a phone that you don’t mind dropping? (but please don’t throw it, if you do, might as well give it to me) Then the Samsung E590 or the Traveller’s suicide phone is for you.
