Official HTC Thunderbolt Release Date by Verizon Wireless Tomorrow, March 17
The last report that we had regarding the release date of the HTC Thunderbolt was true after the expose of Imran Shahid in his twitter account. Tomorrow, March 17, 2011 is the day that all Android fans have been waiting for as it will be the official release date of the much awaited HTC Thunderbolt by Verizon Wireless.
At last, after more than a month of waiting, the first 4G LTE phone can now be bought by consumers in Verizon Wireless Communications Stores and online at Verizon Wireless for $249.99 with a new two-year customer agreement starting tomorrow, March 17, 2011. This was confirmed by an official press release by Verizon Wireless released on March 15, 2011, two days before its scheduled release date. For those who don’t want a two-year contract with Verizon Wireless, you can buy the phone at Best Buy stores at a retail price of $749.99 or opt for an early termination fee of $350.

With the HTC ThunderBolt, customers will need to subscribe to a Verizon Wireless Nationwide Talk plan and a 4G LTE data package. Nationwide Talk plans begin at $39.99 monthly access and an unlimited 4G LTE data plan start is $29.99 monthly access.
An HTC Thunderbolt Mobile Phone, lithium-ion battery, charger, and owner’s manual are included in the package. The phone features a built-in 8.0MP camera and a front-facing 1.3MP camera for capturing special moments. Its Android 2.2 operating system and HTML browser allow you to access popular sites, including Blockbuster, Slacker and Sling. It also includes a 4.3″ color WVGA capacitive touch screen, microSD card slot, and bluetooth compatibility among other features.

An important detail in their press release was the free mobile hotspot if you sign up by 15 May. Given they are planning on charging $20/mo for this feature, over 24 months that is a $240 savings potentially.

My appt. is at Best Buy for 9:30AM and I don’t mind saying I am truly wondering if I am making the right decision with all of the problems that have been reported. I was told the phone will not be capable of using Skype, won’t be able to talk and be on line at the same time, a call will interupt data, but these features will be added some time in the future.
