Apple iPad 2

The Apple iPad 2 has just been announced and guess what? It will be available in black and white colors! If you think the first generation of the iPad is already thin. This one is way thinner! It’s 33% thin than that of the 1st gen. iPad making it 15% lighter.
The iPad 2 is powered by the new A5 chip. It’s a dual-core processor making the iPad 2 twice as fast as the former. Aside from the processor, the graphics improved by 9 times. The iPad 1 has a great battery life. I hope this one will have been optimized for those hardware upgrades. The iPad 2 has a battery life of 10 hours.
Here’s the unexpected, the iPad 2 has a rear camera. A front camera is okay for me. It just feels weird taking photos using the rear camera though. Hehe. Since there’s a front camera, Facetime is also available in the iPad 2. I hope that Skype will have their app ready for iPad 2 soon so that users may make video calls using the iPad.
I felt giddy when they said that they’ll also include PhotoBooth. I’m hoping that the PhotoBooth app will also be available in the iPhone and the iPod Touch. Just like the iPod touch 4th gen., the rear camera is the same as the resolution of its screen. Thus, I expect that the photos are a little better but I’m not expecting it to be better than that of the iPhone. Just like the iPhone and the iPod, you can also record HD videos with it. Will there be tripods made for the iPad 2? Let’s see. :p
Another app to wait is the iMovie. Record an HD video from the iPad and edit it with the iMovie. Isn’t it brilliant? I just hope that the iMovie will also be available for the first gen. iPad even if it has no built-in camera.
Apple also came up with their own cover. But for me, I don’t think I would want to just cover the front. It would also be nice to have an entire case for it which could be more expensive than Apple’s Smart Cover but it has more protection for your iPad 2. What the Smart Cover does is that it magnetically attaches to the iPad 2 so you won’t have a hard time aligning it.
As for the display of the iPad, it is a 9.7-inch LED-backlit display. It also has a wide viewing angle of 178° because of the technology called IPS (in-plane switching).
For connectivity, the iPad 2 is available in WiFi, WiFi + 3G (AT&T or Verizon). Thus, there will be a GSM and CDMA version. The Apple iPad 2 CDMA version is the first tablet that the Apple produced that’s designed to run with CDMA. For the storage, it will still arrive in either 16GB, 32GB or 64GB.
The iPad 2 also has a gyroscope, an accelerometer and a compass. These are cool for gaming and the latter one for improved navigation experience.
The iPad 2 is capable of AirPlay and Video Mirroring. With AirPlay, you can stream your photos/videos/music wirelessly to an HDTV. Speakers must be AirPlay-enabled though. You can also stream it with your Apple TV via Wi-Fi. Video Mirroring is like what you see on the iPad is what you see on the bigger screen. This is amazing for presentations.
Of course, you need to get the Digital AV Adapter (sold separately). A 30-pin to HDMI will also be available.
The iPad 2 is AirPrint-enabled. With the iPad 2, you can print over WiFi. Most of the printers that support AirPrint are the newer HP printers. It’s listed here.
The iPad 2 will be available on March 11. I’m sure that a lot of people will be lining up for it in the US and its release in the Asia-Pacific will also be delayed making the iPad 2 expensive here once you see it in Greenhills sometime in late March or early April perhaps?
Here’s the prices:
iPad 2 Wi-Fi prices
16GB: $499
32GB: $599
64GB: $699
iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G prices (AT&T or Verizon)
16GB: $629

With the pricing of the iPad 2, it looks like that it will eat the competition because of its specs and features
