iPad 2 To Be Launched on March 2, 2011: What Features to Expect?
With the successful launch of the iPad in April of last year selling 3 million units in just 80 days, Apple is again thinking of mirroring that success with its scheduled launch of the iPad 2 next week, March 2, 2011 at San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. The venue has been a popular locale for other Apple product launches.
The rumors about the release date of the iPad 2 first appeared on February. This was confirmed the following day when Apple sent out invites to the members of the press using an invitation featuring an application being peeled off an iPad with the words: “Come See What 2011 Will Be The Year Of” as shown below:

As of now, Apple fans are wondering what could be the new features of the iPad 2 to be unveiled next week. Based on what we’ve gathered from various tech blogs, here’s the list of the upgrades from the original iPad:
- Multi-core ARM Cortex-A9 CPU (single-core ARM Cortex-A8)
- Dual-core SGX543 GPU (single-core SGX535)
- 2048 x 1536 display at 260 dpi (1024 x 768 at 132 dpi) – Retina Display
- GSM/CDMA chipset (GSM only)
- Front- and rear-facing cameras
- SD card slot
- Thinner and lighter
- Redesigned, flatter case
When it comes to features of the iPad 2, nothing is 100% sure yet as of this moment. Let’s just wait for the official announcement of Apple on March 2, 2011.
