Samsung Galaxy Ace: Sleek but basic

Priced at php 16,500 or around 370+usd, this phone has one sleek design that reminds you of Samsung Galaxy S but at a cheaper price, but this phone is cheaper for a reason.
Froyo phone with an 800 MHz processor, it also carries a 5 mp camera, 7.2mbps HSDPA, quad-band, and all the other basic stuff like the 35mm audio jack, bluetooth etc.
What’s particularly peculiar about this phone is that in other pictures it will show the white version with the back angle, it actually looks a lot like the Samsung Galaxy Tab. Except, well, smaller.
This sports a 3.4inch TFT-Capacitive touch screen. As I’m writing this right now I’m starting to wonder what exactly am I trying to say here. Well, I can say that they’re actually pricing this too high (basing on the specs). I think it should at least be around 13-14K.
Maybe they have something to show when it comes to performance, battery life, and IQ in photos. Since I have not done any official review I can’t make any final conclusions. All I Can say is that Samsung’s design for this one is nice (although it still pushes my brain towards the Galaxy Tab design). Till then we’ll have to wait for an official review of this gadget.

Do you know where in the philippines this is currently in stock or being sold. I have only heard of the galaxy mini being sold, but would rather the ACE or GIO.
Thanks
John

Check in Abenson. Bought one from there last month.

Well, you should be wary when purchasing Samsung brands. Example is the Galaxy Spica. It has only been pushed from android 1.5 to android 2.1 officially. After that, no more official updates from Samsung.

The CMK store near Munoz Market in Quezon City sells the Samsung Galaxy Ace for 14K+ in cash. Check http://www.cmkcellphones.com/

hi, i’ve just bought this phone, and i’m enjoying it very much. It’s snappy, doesn’t feel cheap, and lasts longer than a day. I’m really inlove with it now.

I just bought one yesterday at RC Goldline at SM in Cebu City for P14,490. It has a seven-day in-store warranty (bring it back within a week for an exchange) plus 1-year warranty at the service center on Jones Ave. downtown.
It’s my first Android phone and so far I like it. There are lots of apps available for it for free, and it’s pretty easy to use. The touch screen is very responsive and the camera takes pretty good pictures. I just wish the battery lasted longer than a day- I just disabled 3G so maybe that will help. Apparently Android puts a load on the CPU, which eats the battery.

I just bought this phone and so far it satisfy me…
Here’s my pros and cons for this phone:
Pros:
- AMOLED screen, clear and sharp display
- pretty responsive touchscreen
- it’s running on a Android OS, there’s a lot of free apps online
- and some are already mentiined above
Cons:
if you can’t afford an iphone buy this one
- feels like a toy, its light and has a plastic case at the back which turns me off (i don’t know if it’s just me)
- it looks like an iphone
To wrap this up, the design of the phone turns me down; other than that I’m enjoying it.

Yes, you can video chat on it. There are plug-ins for YM to enable this (dunno about skype), but as i have never used this feature on my galaxy ace it kinda boggles me how this can be done since the ace doesn’t have a forward view camera. You can probably see who you’re chatting with but i’m not sure if they will be able to see you…unless it utilizes the camera at the back or something.
