Playstation Phone: a PSP on Android

As the development of smartphones and gaming is growing we come to see how people are becoming more and more attached to their phones, not just because of their mobile browsing capacities and social media updating, but also because of their games.
I, being an Andorid user, LOVE the games in the Android App market. The only problem is my love affair with these games last for only three days or even less. The reason? Well, it’s mostly because these are just short games that are there to kill time for me in long boring moments.
I realized that games which had options to save and play for the next level are the ones that kept me coming. I also noticed that most android games are built on extremely ordinary graphics. Fortunately, Sony had a solution.
What if they could incorporate the awesomeness of gaming in PSPs and add a touch of Android to it? You now have: the Playstation Phone.
Playstation Phone
The playstation phone was talked about sometime last August and I guess it’s no longer a surprise for me to see such an idea materialize.
- Like other Android phones it is Xperia branded.
- It’s powered by a Qualcomm Adreno 205 GPU
- 1GHz Snapdragon QSD8255
- 1500mAh Battery
- 4-inch LCD
- 5mp AF cam w/ LED flash
- 512MB RAM
- 512MB ROM
- micro-SD slot
- second microphone on the back (active noise cancellation)
Playstation + Android =good/bad?
For most gamers out there you are all familiar with the UMD which everyone found quite peculiar with their special casing and seemingly “hard” to imitate structure for anti-piracy purposes (oh really). But as time moved on we saw the disappearance of the UMD and the rise of digital data as source of games. You just get the files and download/purchase them online.
But wouldn’t it even be better if there was already a market you are familiar with and also a market where active user response can be seen? What better place than the Android Market. (well there are other nice options too but I like how Google is handling their App Market).
I think sales of games for PSP will actually be faster when placed in the Android Market. However, there is still some problems that one can encounter like App market payment via Google checkout is still not available in some countries in Asia.
In the end, the most important question has to be: Does the specifications given by Sony for the Playstation Phone make up a sufficient Gaming Phone?

I think they took too much time getting it released. With new phones like the Droid Bionic,Thunderbolt, and Atrix 4g on the way people may want better hardware. Although the controller setup looks fun.

@Mr Silent yep I agree. The controller has to be their selling point and I guess also the feel of the PSP interface (not that I’m 100% sure that it will be a PSP-like user interface)
