Last weekend, July 20, 2009, Google, along with Globe and Ayala Foundation, hosted a developer workshop in Manila.  The said developer workshop’s topics revolved primarily on the usage of Globe and Google’s APIs in developing applications for businesses and individuals.

Google Developer Advocate Patrick Chanezon discussed OpenSocial and Friend Connect APIs, Google App Engine and the recent developments and improvements in the browser’s Java Script engine. More »

HTC Magic Android, exclusive from Smart

An official announcement from HTC Country Manager Mark Sergio came in today saying that Smart Communications, Inc. (SMART) will be the exclusive provider for HTC Magic™, the soon to be first Android-powered mobile phone in the Philippines.

The new Android phone will be available exclusively under SMART Gold plans by the end of June 2009.

Having techie friends has its perks.  I was able to borrow a (beta) test unit of the new Samsung Omnia HD from Kuya Jayvee.  I took advantage by taking these photos.

Since Samsung Omnia HD runs on the latest Symbian Foundation software, the new user interface (UI) looks pretty similar to that of Nokia 5800’s.

AKA Mobile Directory

A new service developed to cater the Filipino mobile market, AKA.name is a mobile directory of business establishments, individuals, merchants and services. It allows any registered user to use SMS or Web to find other content from the AKA Mobile Directory.

Google Maps deploys batch two of edits

June 4, 2009, Manila, PhilippinesGoogle Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) today announced the push of the second round of Google Map Maker edits generated by local users in the Philippines to Google Maps, Google’s dynamic, collaborative geographic search platform. Some of the areas that received a virtual facelift in the latest push to Google Maps are Baguio City and Angeles City in the north; Bacolod City and Iloilo City in the Visayas; and Cagayan de Oro City and Koronadal City in Mindanao. Aside from adding street-level details, users have utilized other useful features of Google Map Maker for plotting landmarks and tourist attractions around the country, including the Merville Access Road.
